Eastern Coast. Seaside Highlights

Approximate distance: 60 km

Setting off from La Casona de los Güelitos towards Puente San Miguel, take the A-8 towards Santander, then continue towards Bilbao until just before Limpias, passing through Seña, where this route begins. From here, the journey will take you through Seña, Limpias, Ampuero, El Puente, Santullán, Castro Urdiales, Oriñón, and Laredo.

Cantabria’s Eastern Coast is home to two of the region’s most famous seaside towns: Laredo and Castro Urdiales. During the summer months, both become vibrant tourist destinations thanks to their beautiful beaches and dramatic cliffs offering stunning views along the route.

Starting from Seña, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of Laredo. Passing through Limpias and Ampuero, you’ll reach Santullán, near which lies the La Yseca Ironworks (Ferrería de La Yseca), where traditional tools and equipment used in metalworking are preserved.

A few kilometers further on is Castro Urdiales, a fishing town of Roman origin. Be sure to visit the Gothic Church of Santa María, the medieval castle, and the breakwater. Wander through its narrow fishing quarter streets, where locals go about their daily lives, and enjoy its delicious seafood and fish.

Before reaching Laredo, you can stop at the peaceful Oriñón Beach. In Laredo, you’ll find an abundance of natural beauty, including El Regatón Beach, the Treto Estuary, and the magnificent La Salvé Beach and dunes, stretching for 5 kilometers.

Don’t miss its most traditional area, declared a Historic-Artistic Site: the Puebla Vieja and El Arrabal. Stroll through its charming streets, admire its characteristic buildings, and immerse yourself in its lively social and cultural atmosphere.

A coastal route rich in history, sea views, and authentic Cantabrian spirit.
